Poselstwa Rzeczypospolitej do państwa moskiewskiego w XVII wieku. Ceremoniał, ikonografia, dary artystyczne
Abstract
The issues concerning diplomatic contacts between the Republic of Poland and Russia over the centuries have always aroused great interest. The constantly appearing new research deepens the historical, political, and archeological issues concerning the relation between the two countries from 17th century, it is possible to notice that the meaning of the term diplomacy, diplomatic ceremony, and - importantly - the meaning of an envoy, are different than what we hear and read today. Based on research concerning the relations between the Moscow state and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 17th century, it is possible to observe dynamically changing relations, from friendship to hatred and content leading to armed conflicts. This dissertation constitutes an attempt to present the setting of 17-century diplomatic ceremonies during visits of envoys from the Republic of Poland to the court of the Moscow state, as well as to present gifts given at that time by the envoys to the tsar.
