dc.description.abstract	Niniejsza praca jest próbą całościowej rekonstrukcji myśli filozoficznej G.K. Chestertona. W pracy uzasadniam, że angielskiego literata można traktować jako filozofa, który opracował swój własny system. Chesterton był pisarzem, ale także nieakademickim filozofem. W niniejszej pracy starałem się zebrać jego poglądy i uporządkować według głównych dyscyplin filozofii. Są to następujące dyscypliny (odpowiadające kolejnym rozdziałom rozprawy): epistemologia, metafizyka, teologia naturalna, filozofia religii, filozofia dziejów, filozofia człowieka i etyka społeczna. Rozdział pierwszy ma charakter wstępny. Za najważniejsze i najbardziej oryginalne uważam następujące filozoficzne koncepcje Chestertona: w epistemologii i metafizyce Chesterton łączy zdroworozsądkowy realizm z woluntaryzmem. W teologii naturalnej Chesterton zaproponował oryginalny argument za istnieniem Boga - argument z wdzięczności. W filozofii religii chrześcijańskiej (katolickiej) Chesterton jako pierwszy wyraźnie sformułował apologetyczny trylemat: Jezus był Bogiem, albo szaleńcem albo kłamcą. Jeśli chodzi o antropologię i filozofie dziejów, to Chesterton jest przedstawicielem antyoświeceniowego nurtu niewiary w postęp. Według niego dzieje człowieka są nie tyle linią wzrostu, ile falą wzlotów i upadków, w których raz zbliżamy, a raz oddalamy się od ideału. Oryginalnym wkładem Chestertona do filozofii społecznej był dystrybucjonizm. This thesis attempts a comprehensive reconstruction of G.K. Chesterton's philosophical thought. In the thesis I justify that the English literary writer can be regarded as a philosopher who developed his own system. Chesterton was a writer, but also a non academic philosopher. In this thesis, I have tried to collect his views and organise them according to the main disciplines of philosophy. These disciplines are as follows (corresponding to the following chapters of the thesis): epistemology, metaphysics, natural theology, philosophy of religion, philosophy of history, philosophy of man and social ethics. The first chapter is introductory in nature. I consider the following philosophical concepts of Chesterton to be the most important and original: in epistemology and metaphysics, Chesterton combines common-sense realism with voluntarism. In natural theology, Chesterton proposed an original argument for the existence of God - the argument from gratitude. In the philosophy of the Christian (Catholic) religion, Chesterton was the first to explicitly formulate the apologetic trilemma: Jesus was God, either a madman or a liar. In terms of anthropology and philosophy of history, Chesterton is a representative of the anti-Enlightenment view of disbelief in progress. According to him, human history is not so much a line of growth as a wave of ups and downs in which we move once closer to and once further away from the ideal. Chesterton's original contribution to social philosophy was distributism.
