Abstract
Dietrich von Hildebrand was arguably one of the key philosophical personalities of the 20th century within Christian-personalist and realist- phenomenological circles. During 1930s in Vienna, he published a series of political essays with the primary aim to fight against National Socialism, but also to philosophically critique communism and liberalism. Due to the philosophical nature of the essays, the dissertation examines the roots of Hildebrand’s thinking and attempts to put them in contemporary context. Although a part of Hildebrand’s writings are contextual and depend on the historical and cultural context in which he worked, many of his ideas are transtemporal and can be used to critically evaluate today’s political context. For this reason, the main purpose of the dissertation is to thoroughly examine Hildebrand’s philosophical arguments against National Socialism, communism, and liberalism, and then assess whether and to what extent they are still useful for understanding the modem political phenomena.
Dietrich von Hildebrand był prawdopodobnie jedną z kluczowych osobowości filozoficznych XX wieku w kręgach chrześcijańskich personalistów i realistów fenomenologicznych. W latach 30. opublikował w Wiedniu serię esejów politycznych, których głównym celem była walka z narodowym socjalizmem, ale także filozoficzna krytyka komunizmu i liberalizmu. Ze względu na filozoficzny charakter esejów rozprawa bada korzenie myślenia Hildebranda i próby umieszczenia ich we współczesnym kontekście. Chociaż część pism Hildebranda jest kontekstowa i zależy od kontekstu historycznego i kulturowego, w którym pracował, wiele jego pomysłów ma charakter transtemporalny i można je wykorzystać do krytycznej oceny dzisiejszego kontekstu politycznego. Z tego powodu głównym celem rozprawy jest dogłębne zbadanie argumentów filozoficznych Hildebranda przeciwko narodowemu socjalizmowi, komunizmowi i liberalizmowi, a następnie ocena, czy i w jakim stopniu są one nadal przydatne dla zrozumienia współczesnych zjawisk politycznych.
