Abstract

A new, ever increasing space of the media influencing the family arouses a number of reflections of axiological, moral or pedagogical nature. It is also connected with the issue of communication in the family or the building up of interpersonal and community bonds on the basis of the material and spiritual resources of the family. “Globalization of culture” and a complex social, legal and economic situation of the family in the post-modern society do not contribute to the processes of integration and inculturation in the family. The media, colonizing the family environment, can additionally strengthen the divisions and sterilize the spiritual and material culture of the family, replacing it with the “culture of appearances”. However, on the level of popular culture, they may also create possibilities to enrich what is traditional with new values and ways of participation of all family members in the cultural wealth of mankind. However, questions arise in what way to gain the media for the processes of family incultura­tion, and how to make them the source of development and integration of the family. Answers to these questions are certainly sought by the contemporary medial edu­ cation, but they also have to be sought by the media themselves, which at the same time have to define their relation to the receiver of the medial message, which is the family.
