Abstract

In the postmodern pluralist and individualized society, the lifestyle and the quality of life of the family and the values that it transfers from generation to generation ingrained in parental authority are quite frequently undermined and questioned. As a result, young people often have a lot of idols but in reality nobody to serve as the authority for them, no close person who would help them to determine their own way of life. Hence, it is no surprise that many educators emphasize strongly that each child, in the development of his/her mature personality, needs the parents’ authority, even demands it. A child easily subordinates to the parents’ requirements if only he/she discerns that their authentic care of his/her good - the ability of empathy, sensitivity to harm and readiness for devotion - is expressed in this authority. Later, in his/her adult life, the child will need parental authority to fully realize the potential of his/her capabilities in the social and family life, taking advantage of the parents’ experience and wisdom.
