Sytuacja kościoła w okupowanej Polsce w świetle wojennej korespondencji prymasa Augusta Hlonda z bp. Józefem Gawliną

Abstract
Ścisła współpraca Augusta Hlonda, prymasa Polski, oraz bp. Józefa Gawliny, przedwojennego biskupa polowego Wojska Polskiego, trwała przez prawie ćwierć wieku. W ostatnim czasie przygotowano do druku drugie, uzupełnione wydanie ich korespondencji z okresu 1924-1948. Dzięki wnikliwej kwerendzie w kilku archiwach udało się w ostatnich latach odnaleźć wiele listów obu hierarchów z okresu II wojny światowej. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje genezę dokumentów, ich losy, a w części zasadniczej – analizę tekstów, przeprowadzoną w celu zrozumienia tego, jaka była wiedza biskupa i prymasa o sytuacji panującej w okupowanej Polsce, jakie zabiegi podejmowali, dążąc do uwrażliwienia Stolicy Apostolskiej na te problemy oraz na kontakty z duchowieństwem pozostającym w ojczyźnie. W tekście wyodrębniono korespondencję z okresu pobytu prymasa w Rzymie (do czerwca 1940 roku) oraz z okresu jego pobytu w Lourdes (do lutego 1942 roku). Później kontakt między hierarchami został przerwany, gdyż bp. J. Gawlina udał się Wschód, by organizować duszpasterstwo Armii Polskiej na terenie ZSRR, a prymas A. Hlond został przez Niemców internowany.
The close cooperation between August Hlond, the Primate of Poland, and Bishop Józef Gawlina, the pre-war field bishop of the Polish Army, lasted for almost a quarter of a century. A second, completed edition of their correspondence from the period 1924-1948 has recently been prepared for publication. Thanks to a thorough search in several archives, a number of letters from the two hierarchs dating back to World War II have been found in recent years. This article presents the origins of the documents, their fate and, in the main part, the analysis of the texts carried out in order to understand the knowledge of the bishop and the primate about the situation prevailing in occupied Poland, the efforts they made to sensitize the Holy See to these problems and their contacts with the priests remaining in the h omeland. The text extracts correspondence from the period of the primate’s stay in Rome (until June 1940) and from his stay in Lourdes (until February 1942). Later, the contact between the hierarchs was interrupted, as Bishop J. Gawlina moved East to organize the pastoral work of the Polish Army in the USSR, and Primate A. Hlond was interned by the Germans.
