Abstract

Celem rozprawy doktorskiej pt. „The Technological Unconscious in Contemporary Fiction” in English jest poddanie analizie sposobu, w jaki współczesna proza anglojęzyczna przedstawia rolę jaką szeroko rozumiane środowisko człowieka odgrywa w kształtowaniu ludzkiej świadomości, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem technologicznych aspektów tego środowiska. Praca podzielona została na pięć rozdziałów poprzedzonych rysem historycznym przedstawienia technologii w literaturze anglojęzycznej. Dyskusja nad wybranymi tekstami literackimi ma na celu pokazanie, że współczesna proza narracyjna w języku angielskim przedstawia świadomość jako nierozerwalnie powiązaną z otaczającym środowiskiem technologicznym. Stosując szeroki zakres technik narracyjnych i nawiązując do różnorodnych modeli świadomości analizowane teksty pokazują jednocześnie, że połączenie między technologią a świadomością jest często niewidoczne dla jednostki ze względu na wszechobecność i transparentność technologii.The purpose of the doctoral dissertation entitled The Technological Unconscious in Contemporary Fiction in English is to analyze the way in which contemporary English-language prose explores the role that the broadly understood technology plays in shaping human consciousness., with particular emphasis on technological aspects of this environment. The work is divided into five chapters preceded by a historical outline of the representation of technology in English literature. The discussion of the chosen literary texts aims to demonstrate that contemporary narrative fiction in English presents consciousness as inextricably linked with the surrounding technological environment. Using a wide range of narrative techniques and referring to a variety of consciousness models, the analyzed texts also show that the connection between technology and consciousness is often invisible to the human agent due to the ubiquity and transparency of technology.
