Abstract
Przedmiotem rozprawy doktorskiej jest myśl Galena Strawsona (ur. 1952), brytyjskiego filozofa, wieloletniego profesora Uniwersytetu w Oksfordzie. W wstępie przedstawiam przedmiot, cel i metodę pracy, a także zarysowuję sylwetkę biograficzną Galena Strawsona. Rozdział I poświęcony jest zagadnieniu świadomości. Omawiam w nim polemiki Strawsona z tzw. neobehawioryzmem, a następnie szczegółowo przedstawiam jego koncepcję monizmu fundamentalnego, potem zaś przechodzę do wyrastającej z poglądu teorii panpsychizmu. W zakończeniu dokonuję oceny wiarygodności tego pogladu i jego zgodności z danymi nauki. W rozdziale II podejmuję zagadnienie wolnej woli. W pierwszej kolejności przedstawiam argument Strawsona przeciwko wolności i moralnej odpowiedzialności, opierający się na niemożliwości samodeterminacji. następnie zajmuję się Strawsona fenomenologią wolności, w której przyjmuje on pogląd, iż poczucie wolności jest konieczne dla wolnego sprawstwa. W zakończeniu rozdziału staram się godzić obie tezy. Rozdział III poświęcony jest spekulatywnej koncepcji jaźni, zgodnie z którą człowiek jest zespołem metafizycznych mikropodmiotów doświadczeń. Omawiam również tzw. etykę epizodyczną. W zakończeniu próbuję przedstawić myśl Strawsona w szerszej - procesualnej_- ramie, a także odpowiedzieć na pytanie, jakie miejsce zajmuje on we współczesnej metafizyce.
The subject of the thesis is the thought of Galen Strawson (b. 1952), a British philosopher, a long-standing professor of Oxford University. In the Introduction I present the subject, the aim and the method used in the thesis as well as I propose a rough biographical sketch of Galen Strawson. Chapter I is devoted to the problem of consciousness. I discuss his quarrels with so-called neobehaviorism; next - I present in detail his conception of fundamental monism and move to its consequence, namely panpsychism. In the summary I try to assess the credibility of the view and its compatibility with science. In Chapter II undertake the problem of free will. First I present Strawson's argument against freedom and moral responsibility, based on the impossibility of self-determination. Next I focus on Strawson's phenomenology of freedom, according to which the sense of freedom is necessary for being a free agent. Chapter III is devoted to a speculative conception of the self, according to which a man is a bundle of metaphysical micro-subjects of experience. I also discuss so-called episodic ethics. In the last part of my dissertation I try to present Strawson's thought on a broader, processual, background and find his place in contemporary metaphysics.
