Abstract
God the Father unknown besides the Son The study focuses on the question of knowing God as the Parent - Father. It describes Israel’s relationship with God understood as “the God of the fathers.” The relationship of election is not identical with the relationship of sonship. The truth about God as the Parent is inseparable from the mystery of the Son’s Incarnation (the category of birth related to God). The only-begotten Son revealed himself as the Eternal Child (H.U. von Balthasar) and uncovered the mystery of the Fatherhood of God. Every human being as a “human child” is a “creature,” the work of God. Through grace a man or woman can “be born of God,” i.e. be born again. Those who became sons in the only-begotten Son do not become experts in religious studies. In the attitude of faith they favour the Father, whom, as Jesus himself, they call “their own” (our Father). The revelation of God in the Son “is the ultimate possibility offered by God for the human being to know in all its fullness the seminal plan of love which began with creation” (John Paul II, enc. Fides et ratio, no. 15).
