Abstract
Love is often the main reason for contracting a sacramental marriage. In the sacramental marriages the conjugal love is the vital part of the marriage vow. However, a question arises: what does the conjugal love mean for the spouses who contract the sacramental marriage and how do they want to implement it in their life. Seeking the answer to that question in 2012, the researchers made a survey among 772 fiancés (386 couples) in 13 dioceses in Poland. The researchers took into account the influence of the independent variables such as: sex, age, the level of education, the attitude towards faith, the number of siblings and the family of origin. The majority of the fiancés aims at implementing the conjugal love according to the marital vow. They want to love their spouse in a faithful and honest way, exclusively and permanently, they want to pursue love as a gift of themselves, they want to create the unity of two people, to forgive the spouse. Only two thirds of the respondents want their love to be open to procreation. A certain percentage of the fiancés consider some vital aspects of the conjugal love to be of average importance, of little importance or as not important at all. The aims of the conjugal love seen according to the marital vow are more valued by women, by the fiancés aged 18 to 25, by highly educated people, by the people who represent the more positive attitude towards faith and by the fiancés who come from full families. At the same time a large percentage of the fiancés highly values experiencing the feelings for the spouse, experiencing the pleasant feelings connected with the marital bond and creating the friendship bonds with the other spouse. The fiancés seldom value the erotic dimension of conjugal love. Some of the fiancés manifest utilitarian tendencies, and every fifth of the fiancés manifests the maniacal tendency which aims at controlling the other spouse. The obtained results allow for drawing conclusions for the pastoral care of the family, especially in the preparation of young people and fiancés for contracting the sacramental marriage.
