Abstract
Publikacja zawiera ogólne, a jednocześnie całościowe przedstawienie zagadnień związanych z geografię i archeologią biblijną, przede wszystkim geografią fizyczną i historyczną ziem biblijnych. Rozdział pierwszy przynosi zwięzłe wprowadzenie do geografii i archeologii biblijnej, podaje konieczne definicje i kreśli obszar zainteresowań obu tych dyscyplin naukowych oraz ich obecny status. Kolejne jej części zawierają wiadomości geograficzne i archeologiczne na temat ziem biblijnych przedstawione według kryterium geograficznego i chronologicznego, kolejno Bliskiego Wschodu, Ziemi Świętej oraz Jerozolimy i jej historii. Ostatni, piąty rozdział poświęcony jest początkom Kościoła i jego misji w świecie grecko-rzymskim. W opinii autora geografia i archeologia biblijna, jako nauki pomocnicze biblistyki, nie mogą być zredukowane do jedynie świeckiej i zlaicyzowanej postaci archeologii Palestyny lub Syro-Palestyny. Geografia i archeologia biblijna są włączone w dyskurs teologiczny ze względu charakter źródeł, z jakich czerpią i jakie objaśniają, i które także decydują o ich odrębności. W ujęciu biblijnym i historycznym „ziemią przymierza” jest ziemia obiecana Abrahamowi i jego potomkom – Ziemia Święta, lub ujmując szerzej – wszystkie biblijne kraje starożytnego Bliskiego Wschodu. W perspektywie teologicznej „ziemią przymierza” jest każdy człowiek otwarty na Boże Objawienie jako rzeczywiste miejsce dokonującego się zbawienia.
The work contains a general and, at the same time, comprehensive presentation of issues related to biblical geography and archaeology, primarily the physical and historical geography of biblical lands. The first chapter provides a concise introduction to biblical geography and archaeology, provides the necessary definitions, and outlines the area of interest of both these scientific disciplines and their status. The following parts of the publication contain geographic and archaeological information on the biblical lands, presented according to geographical and chronological criteria, successively the Middle East, the Holy Land and Jerusalem and its history. The last, fifth chapter is devoted to the beginnings of the Church and its mission in the Greco-Roman world. In the author’s opinion, biblical geography and archaeology, as auxiliary sciences of biblical studies, cannot be reduced to a secular and secularized form of the archaeology of Palestine or Syro-Palestine. Biblical geography and archaeology are included in the theological discourse due to the nature of the sources they draw from and explain, and which also determine their distinctiveness. In biblical and historical terms, the “land of the covenant” is the land promised to Abraham and his descendants – the Holy Land, or more broadly – all the biblical countries of the ancient Near East. In the theological perspective, the “land of the covenant” is every man open to God’s Revelation as the real place of salvation taking place.
