Primate Stefan Wyszyński - an eulogist of Gregorian chant

Abstract

The article shows the unknown aspect of the activity of Primate Stefan Wyszyński related to sacred music, which included in particular the promotion of Gregorian chant. The author extracts from his speeches the most important statements considering the singing and emphasizes its value and topicality in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. The Prima te’s respect for the singing is a testimony and manifestation of pastoral care to preserve the identity of the Church’s musical tradition.Artykuł ukazuje mało dotąd znany aspekt aktywności Prymasa Stefana Wyszyńskiego związany z muzyką sakralną, a w szczególności z propagowaniem chorału gregoriańskiego. Autor wydobywa z jego przemówień najważniejsze wypowiedzi na temat tego śpiewu, podkreślające jego walory i aktualność w liturgii Kościoła katolickiego. Szacunek Prymasa dla tego śpiewu stanowi świadectwo i przejaw pasterskiej troski o zachowanie tożsamości tradycji muzycznej Kościoła.
