Abstract
The paper presents the review of information concerning conditions for the growth of trees near the streets in urban areas. We present impact of different factors (e.g. deformation and contamination of soils, air pollution, water deficit) on trees growing near small and big streets. The paper is also an attempt to assess growth conditions of street trees in Lublin. We conducted field studies of tree placements along selected streets of Lublin. We have also assessed the potential impact of negative factors on trees. We checked the distance between trees and the edge of the road. We tried to answer the questions: if tree roots are covered with soil, asphalt or paving; if snow is removed from the roadway to the roots of trees, etc.
