Meditation consists in a specific presence, when everything is suspended except the attitude of cleaving to the object to which this presence refers. Meditation involves two aspects: a philosophical- religious system and practical exercises. It occurs in different forms in all cultures. Meditation has a whole range of functions, e.g. it enables better self-knowledge, activates a person’s creative capacities, harmonizes one’s personality, etc. The interest in meditation especially among young people seem to have at least two reasons. In some cases it results from existential anxiety and a sense of menace, and also from a need of reflection on one’s life and quest for the meaning of life. In other cases interest in meditation has to do with seeking ways of reaching and enhancing one’s inner resources, e.g. faster regeneration of strength, greater efficiency, greater sensitivity and development of creative powers, coping with negative emotions (fear, depression, aggression). Both motivations, combined with attempts at experimentation, are characteristic for adolescent youth. The aim of the present study is to answer the question about the role of different forms of meditation in the intensification of negative emotional reactions in youth who identify with the Christian religion. In the study, 144 persons were given the “Moods and Humours” test by A. H. Buss and A. Durkee, “The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire” by R.B. Cattell and A.T. Beck’s HS scale. Results show that effects are relevantly linked to the type of meditation practiced.pl
