Abstract
"Chrześcijanie [ ... ] mają obowiązek wnosić właściwy sobie wkład w budowę Europy, który będzie tym cenniejszy i skuteczniejszy, im bardziej oni sami będą zdolni do odnowy w świetle Ewangelii. Staną się w ten sposób kontynuatorami długiej historii świętości, która objęła różne regiony Europy w ciągu minionych dwóch tysiącleci i której najwybitniejsi tylko przedstawiciele zostali oficjalnie uznani za świętych i postawieni na wzór wszystkim" - napisał Jan Paweł II w liście apostolskim ogłaszającym św. Brygidę Szwedzką, św. Katarzynę ze Sieny i św. Teresę Benedyktę od Krzyża Współpatronkami Europy. W artykule na podstawie wybranych postaci ze świata polityki (w tym: Karol - cesarz Austrii, cesarz pokoju, Hildegard Burjan - posłanka do Parlamentu Republiki Austrii, Robert Schuman - premier Francji i minister spraw zagranicznych oraz Giorgio La Pira - członek Zgromadzenia Konstytucyjnego) zostaną przeanalizowane ich starania na rzecz pokoju, tworzenia praw konstytucyjnych, kształtowaniu myśli katolickiej, interesu społeczeństwa, bezpieczeństwa, praw kobiet, edukacji i innych.
"Christians [ ... ] have a duty to make a specific contribution in the building up of Europe, one which will be all the more valid and effective to the extent that they themselves are renewed in the light of the Gospel. In this way they will carry forward that long history of holiness which has traversed the various regions of Europe in the course of these two millennia, in which the officially recognized Saints are but the towering peaks held up as a model for all" - John Paul II wrote in his apostolic letter issued proclaiming saint Bridged of Sweden saint Catherine of Sierra and saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross co-patronesses of Europe. In this article, based on selected characters from the world of politics (including Charles of Austria - Emperor of peace, HiIdegard Burjan - a Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria and Robert Schuman - French Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgio La Pira - a member of the Constituent Assembly, and other people) will discuss their efforts to peace, creation of constitutional rights, shaping Catholic thought, welfare, safety, women's rights, education, and more.
