Abstract
The aim of this article is to present the issues of educational and social importance of preparing subtitles (or captions) in television, cinema and theater for the deaf and hard of hearing persons. The article discusses the principles of creating subtitles adequate to the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing persons and reviews the good practices in this field.
