Abstract
Uchwytnych w źródłach przywódców powstania izauryjskiego podzielić można z grubsza na dwie grupy. Pierwszą stanowili ci, którzy za Zenona zrobili karierę w centrum państwa, względnie sprawowali różne funkcje cywilne i wojskowe na terytorium Izaurii. To oni, jako ci, którzy stracili dotychczasowe pozycje i majątki, byli kołem zamachowym do powstańczego zrywu. Drugą grupę stanowili ci, którzy wypłynęli dopiero w związku z powstaniem, o których wcześniejszej karierze nic nie wiemy, ale z pewnością cieszący się pewnym autorytetem czy popularnością wśród Izauryjczyków. Oni poczuli się zapewne dotknięci represjami, podjętymi przez Anastazjusza i liczyli na to, cesarz ugnie się w obliczu powstania i przywróci Izaurii przywileje, którymi cieszyła się ona pod koniec rządów Zenona.
The leaders of the Isaurian uprising depicted in the sources can be roughly divided into two groups. The first were those who, under Zeno, had made a career in the center of the state, or held various civil and military positions in the territory of Isauria. Having lost their positions and fortunes, it was them who were the flywheel for the uprising. The second group were those who surfaced only in connection with the uprising, about whose earlier career we know nothing, but who certainly enjoyed some authority or popularity among the Isaurians. They probably felt affected by the repression undertaken by Anastasius and hoped that the emperor would fold as a result of the uprising and restore the privileges Isauria had enjoyed at the end of Zeno’s reign.
