Abstract
Tworząc "De ortu et obitu Patrum", Izydor nawiązuje do tradycji hagiograficznej, przejmując zarówno wypracowane przez nią wzorce kompozycyjne, jak i też cele. Ułożone przez niego żywoty wybitnych biblijnych postaci w pierwszej kolejności służą zbudowaniu czytelnika. Funkcje perswazyjna, komunikacyjna i rekreacyjna wraz ze służebną wobec nich funkcją poetycką są z różnym natężeniem realizowane w różnych częściach relacji, prowadząc – zgodnie z konwencją przyjętą w hagiografii – ku realizacji dzieła zbawienia w życiu czytelnika. Odstępując od wymogów gatunku, Izydor przekazuje również informacje nieprzydatne do charakteryzacji prezentowanych postaci. Ich obecność w tekście świadczy o jego ciekawości świata, uniwersalistycznym spojrzeniu na dzieje oraz zmyśle natury, stanowi też o dodatkowej atrakcyjności utworu dla czytelnika.
Writing "On the Lifes and Deathes of the Fathers" Isidore refers to the hagiographic tradition, taking over both its compositional patterns and its purposes. Composed by him biographies of outstanding biblical figures first of all serve his recipient as a source of spiritual edification. Persuasive, communicative and recreative functions, as well as being in the service of them poetic one, are realized in different parts of relations with different intensity, leading – according to the convention of hagiography – to the accomplishment of reader’s salvation. Derogating from the rules of the genre, Isidore transmits some information, which is not necessary for the heroes’ characterization. By acting in this way he both demonstrates his curiosity, broadness of the worldview, sensitivity to the beaty of nature and provides his reader with enjoyment.
