- ItemFilozoficzne podstawy problematyki bezpieczeństwa człowieka(Fundacja "Lubelska Szkoła Filozofii Chrześcijańskiej", 2014) Gondek, PawełThe issue of security has become in recent years the issue extensively considered and discussed in the various disciplines of social sciences area. However, the interdisciplinary study of human security needs the discipline which can integrates these issues. This discipline can be philosophy, which aim is to point out the integral understanding of man. The personalistic philosophy emphasizes primacy of the person and its dignity dimension as a condition to guarantee the safety of man. Human development as a person, manifested in a constant and multidirectional dynamism of action, does not allow for easy lineup conditions securing his existence. For man, his security is an important condition for the sovereign functioning in the world. Man realizes his personal potentiality mainly in relation to other people, as expressed through the creation of culture and participation in society. However, only the interpersonal community provides human security, which affirms the dignity and supports his personal development.
- ItemHyperreality as an Instrument of Mass Communication(Fundacja "Lubelska Szkoła Filozofii Chrześcijańskiej", 2014) Gondek, PawełJean Baudrillard’s reflection on the mechanisms of how the mass media function bring us to the question of hyperreality. The problem of hyperreality results from the limitation of man’s cognitive abilities, which appear especially in the context of the media. The mass media produce a sphere saturated with signs that have no reference to reality. One effect of those processes is hyperreality, in which what is real is adapted to what is virtual. The inexpressibility of existence with respect to content contributes to the creation of hyperreality in communication processes. Therefore an important element in philosophical discussion on the media is an analysis of the possibility of a cognitive apprehension of reality, and in particular, an analysis of the possibility of the knowledge of things’ existence. This is because this is the starting point for reflections on the value of knowledge and on knowledge’s consequences in communication processes.
- ItemProtection of Roadside Shrines and Crosses in Poland Against The Background of Historical Events and in Light of Established Legal Acts(Towarzystwo Naukowe KUL, Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2022) Żak-Kulesza, MałgorzataRoadside crosses and shrines are a characteristic element of the Polish landscape. Small sacred objects are intertwined with history and the cultural context of Polish countryside and cities, arising from the need of faith, and have manifested piety for generations. Many crosses and shrines were erected as mementos of important national events, uprisings, war skirmishes, independence spurts that took place in the 19th and in the first half of the 20th centuries, commemorating national anniversaries, for instance 1918, anniversaries of Christianization of Poland, jubilees of historic events. They were also built upon old mass graves of victims of bygone epidemics. In the context of historic events, objects of small sacral architecture were met with harassment and repressions. Therefore, after regaining independence legal initiatives were undertaken by the state and the Church to save these objects. Unfortunately, not always did this type of object receive sufficient legal protection or proper appraisal. In documents they are present in the background. That is why ethnographic studies are often the only way to save their memory, and preserve the image of old crosses, statues, and shrines.
