- ItemFilozoficzne podstawy problematyki bezpieczeństwa człowieka(Fundacja "Lubelska Szkoła Filozofii Chrześcijańskiej", 2014) Gondek, PawełThe issue of security has become in recent years the issue extensively considered and discussed in the various disciplines of social sciences area. However, the interdisciplinary study of human security needs the discipline which can integrates these issues. This discipline can be philosophy, which aim is to point out the integral understanding of man. The personalistic philosophy emphasizes primacy of the person and its dignity dimension as a condition to guarantee the safety of man. Human development as a person, manifested in a constant and multidirectional dynamism of action, does not allow for easy lineup conditions securing his existence. For man, his security is an important condition for the sovereign functioning in the world. Man realizes his personal potentiality mainly in relation to other people, as expressed through the creation of culture and participation in society. However, only the interpersonal community provides human security, which affirms the dignity and supports his personal development.
- ItemHyperreality as an Instrument of Mass Communication(Fundacja "Lubelska Szkoła Filozofii Chrześcijańskiej", 2014) Gondek, PawełJean Baudrillard’s reflection on the mechanisms of how the mass media function bring us to the question of hyperreality. The problem of hyperreality results from the limitation of man’s cognitive abilities, which appear especially in the context of the media. The mass media produce a sphere saturated with signs that have no reference to reality. One effect of those processes is hyperreality, in which what is real is adapted to what is virtual. The inexpressibility of existence with respect to content contributes to the creation of hyperreality in communication processes. Therefore an important element in philosophical discussion on the media is an analysis of the possibility of a cognitive apprehension of reality, and in particular, an analysis of the possibility of the knowledge of things’ existence. This is because this is the starting point for reflections on the value of knowledge and on knowledge’s consequences in communication processes.

- ItemProtection of Roadside Shrines and Crosses in Poland Against The Background of Historical Events and in Light of Established Legal Acts(Towarzystwo Naukowe KUL, Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2022) Żak-Kulesza, MałgorzataRoadside crosses and shrines are a characteristic element of the Polish landscape. Small sacred objects are intertwined with history and the cultural context of Polish countryside and cities, arising from the need of faith, and have manifested piety for generations. Many crosses and shrines were erected as mementos of important national events, uprisings, war skirmishes, independence spurts that took place in the 19th and in the first half of the 20th centuries, commemorating national anniversaries, for instance 1918, anniversaries of Christianization of Poland, jubilees of historic events. They were also built upon old mass graves of victims of bygone epidemics. In the context of historic events, objects of small sacral architecture were met with harassment and repressions. Therefore, after regaining independence legal initiatives were undertaken by the state and the Church to save these objects. Unfortunately, not always did this type of object receive sufficient legal protection or proper appraisal. In documents they are present in the background. That is why ethnographic studies are often the only way to save their memory, and preserve the image of old crosses, statues, and shrines.
- ItemPrzedłużanie życia jako problem moralny(Tarnów : Wydawnictwo Diecezji Tarnowskiej Biblos., 2017) Ferdynus, MarcinThe book aims at answering the question whether prolonging human life at all costs is morally acceptable. The main aim of the paper was executed over three chapters. The first chapter presents an empirical context of the issue analysed. This part of the book provides basic data on longevity and ageing processes as well as life-prolonging projects and technologies. Attention was brought to demographic changes being in progress all over the world and the question whether longer life leads to negative effects. It also aimed at identifying the arguments that motivate the human to prolong life. Moreover, it was assumed that the unique character of each human life is expressed in individual and unrepeatable existence of that person who is entitled to an objective value – personal dignity. It was also shown that a human entity exceeds the sphere of purely biological conditions. What is more, it was stated that human life is not an ultimate value, but a fundamental one. The second chapter discusses two problem areas: the issue of refraining from persistent therapy and the issue of obtaining and using ,,spare parts” for the purpose of prolonging human life. This part of the book asks what the limits of conduct are for a doctor acting to prolong the life of his patients, especially adults suffering from terminal illnesses and premature infants. The analysis executed allowed for a key conclusion that, in a situation when the patient cannot be treated because the therapy is ineffective, only the dying is prolonged, therefore the only rightful decision is to abandon persistent therapy. Such actions were considered morally acceptable. In the second chapter, questions were raised about the conditions that enable prolonging human life by ex vivo transplantation, ex mortuo transplantation, xenotransplantation, artificial elements, and stem cells. The analyses executed led to a conclusion that the life of one should not be prolonged at the cost of infringing the autonomy of others, nor at the cost of exposing others to a serious risk of health breakdown or death, nor at the cost of experimenting (artificial prolongation of life), nor at the cost of destroying human embryos in order to obtain human cells. The third chapter of the book focuses on biomedical interference exceeding the therapeutic scope – biomedical enhancement. In this part of the book, questions where posed about whether the nature of Homo sapiens species should be enhanced, is it about the enhancement of individuals or the species as a whole, whether human nature is a constans and should not be changed in its structure optimal for the species, or whether it is not an unchanging, metaphysical ,,constant” and as such it is not as ,,untouchable” so not to be interfered with. Also, it attempted to answer the question whether persistent actions aimed at prolonging life by means of biomedical enhancement will destroy what seems invaluable – the unique character of human life. The analyses executed showed that nor the supporters, nor the opponents of biomedical improvement, want to prolong human life at all costs. Both sides in the discussion arrive at the same conclusion but refer to different anthropological and ethical assumptions.
- ItemThe Lublin Philosophical School: History - Conceptions - Disputes(Wydawnictwo KUL, 2020) Lekka-Kowalik, Agnieszka; Gondek, PawełThe monograph presents the Lublin Philosophical School, known also as the Lublin School of Classical Philosophy, which originated at the Catholic University of Lublin as an educational program and a style of practicing philosophy. The title of the introduction grasps the main message of the school: fidelity to the truth - fidelity to reality. The authors - K. Stępień, W. Dłubacz, P. Gondek, A. Maryniarczyk, A. Gudaniec, T. Duma, B. Czernecka-Rej, A. Lekka-Kowalik, S. Majdański - discuss the processes of building foundations of the school and the determinants of "classicality" that shape its specificity. The subtitle of the monograph determines the arrangement of the texts. Historical articles show the socio-intellectual and organizational context of the school's creation and its place in the philosophical tradition. Systematic articles analyze the key conceptions of realistic metaphysical philosophy, including understanding the human as a person. Meta-subject articles concern the philosophical inspirations of the school, the specificity of the language and methods of metaphysics, non-classical logics developed by the school's members, and disputes carried on within the school. S. Majdański's text is a testimony and reflection on the conditions of the school's functioning and a sketch of the personalities of its main masters. The monograph also contains two articles by the schoo's founding fathers: Fr. Professor Mieczysław A. Krąpiec, OP and Rev. Professor Stanisław Kamiński. The collected articles show the topicality of this way of philosophizing which is programmatically open to new experiences. The book ends with a subject and personal index, an extensive bibliography, and a set of photographs.
