Fühmann makes a reckoning with his Nazi past and also he searches for a deﬁnition of his own esthetic-literary path. In his book, the author devotes a lot of thoughts to his past (Vergangenheit) and he evaluates them in the context of the inner alteration (Wandlung) that occurs multiple times; he underlines that reality is ﬁlled with contradictions. The novelist ties his experiences from the past with the thoughts about the concept of the myth (Mythos); anthropologic category that is understood as a model in which contradictory experiences from the past are gathered and they can be compared to the experience of a single human being.
