Był on efektem rozwoju doktrynalnego dotyczącego Eucharystii, a także związanych z tym odczuwanych w różnych środowiskach kościelnych potrzeb uczczenia Chrystusa, który stał się darem dla człowieka i drogą zbawienia. Głównymi i powszechnie przyjętymi formami tego kultu są: obrzęd podniesienia świętych postaci, prywatna i wspólnotowa adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu, prywatne praktyki modlitewne, uroczystość Bożego Ciała z tradycyjną procesją eucharystyczną, praktyka nabożeństwa czterdziestogodzinnego, kongresy eucharystyczne lokalne, narodowe i międzynarodowe. W artykule zostają podjęte zagadnienia dotyczące historycznej genezy tych form pobożności, a także aspekty teologii, które je uzasadniają. In the second millennium of the Church, exceptional progress was made in the development of Eucharistic worship outside the Mass, assuming very diverse forms. It was the result of doctrinal development concerning the Eucharist, as well as the related needsfelt in various church environments to honor Christ, who became a gift for man and the way of salvation. The main and commonly accepted forms of this worship are: the rite of elevation of the Holy Species, private and communal adoration oft he Blessed Sacrament, private prayer practices, the celebration of Corpus Christi with the traditional Eucharistic procession, the practice of the „Forty Hours’ Devotion”, local, national and international Eucharistic congresses.
