Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present the manifestations of Jerzy Bereś, in the context of body art in East-Central Europe and the practices of Western artists. His actions, in which the artist usually performed naked, are also reconsidered in reference to the ritual theories. The term had been willingly borrowed from anthropology by art critics in order to describe performance art. As regards provocation, the question is about the provoking artist and the audience being provoked. Many works of art were perceived as scandalous, provocative or blasphemous at the time they had been created. My argument primarily focuses on the importance of a specific dialogue between Jerzy Bereś and his audience, that underlies such performance act.
