Abstract
Od folkloru do folku. Metamorfozy pieśni tradycyjnych we współczesnej kulturze, to pierwsza w Polsce monografia prezentująca i analizująca szczegółowo współczesne próby rekonstrukcji folkloru oraz zjawisko folku. Monografia miała na celu wykazanie prawidłowości w procesie włączania, przyswajania i przetwarzania pieśni ludowych we współczesnym wtórnym obiegu kulturowym – począwszy od lat osiemdziesiątych, do roku 2003. W rozprawie zaprezentowano szczegółowo zwłaszcza następujące sposoby przetwarzania tradycyjnych pieśni: selekcja gatunków, skróty, kontaminacje tekstów, modyfikacje językowe, eliminacje cech gwarowych, wtórna dialektyzacja, modyfikacje parametrów muzycznych, zmiany w zakresie techniki śpiewu, kontrafaktura, zmiana funkcji obrzędowych na ludyczne i integrujące. Wyróżniono pięć podstawowych nurtów wtórnego obiegu folkloru reprezentowanych przez: wiejskie zespoły śpiewacze, zespoły pieśni i tańca, zespoły folkowe, grupy rekonstruujące folklor, teatry eksperymentalne. Badania terenowe i kwerendy prowadzone w latach 2001–2003, objęły m.in.: wywiady, imrezy, koncerty rejestrowane na terenie całej Polski, kolekcję fonogramów wydanych w latach 1990–2003, materiały archiwalne i druki ulotne.
From Folklore to Folk. Metamorphoses of Traditional Songs in the Contemporary Culture). This was the first in Poland monograph which presented and analysed in detail the contemporary attempts at reconstruction of folklore and the phenomenon of folk. The monograph aimed at indicating the regularities in the process of adoption, assimilation and transformation of folk songs in the present-day secondary cultural circulation – beginning from the 1980s until 2003. In the dissertation I discuss in detail especially the following ways of transformation of traditional songs: selection of genres, abridgement, contamination of texts, language modifications, elimination of dialect features, secondary dialectization, modification of musical parameters, changes of singing techniques, contrafactum, replacement of ritual functions with ludic and integrative ones. I have distinguished five basic trends of the secondary circulation of folklore, represented by: rural vocal groups, song and dance ensembles, folk music bands, folklore reconstructing groups, and experimental theatres. The field research and search queries conducted in 2001–2003 covered e.g.: interviews, events, concerts recorded all over Poland; collection of music albums published in 1990–2003; archive material and ephemeral prints. The derivative character of the contemporary circulation of folklore is especially manifested in the separation of texts from the original depositaries of tradition and from the environment in which these texts used to function for centuries. This derivative character is also connected with the loss of the original audience of songs, change in the relationship between a singer and a listener, change in the original communication situations and, what is equally important, in the original functions of texts and music. Folklore texts included in the contemporary circulation are adjusted by their new singers to the new communication circumstances. Assimilation of folk songs into the contemporary urban culture is typically connected with their introduction onto the stage: the place originally alien to them, and less frequently with reconstruction of complete out-of-stage situations in which these songs could be used. The secondary circulation in which folk songs are functioning today goes beyond the traditional environment of folklore depositaries. Another completely new space for using folk songs is the media. The discussed phenomenon of “returning to the roots” (one of its manifestations is the interest in folk songs) can be perceived broadly, in several dimensions: social, cultural and linguistic. I consider a folk song to be the main poetic genre of folklore, in which words are inseparably connected with music, behaviour code, context (background situation) and performance scenario. The relationship with the performance situation determines new functions of the text.
